Through these intimate performances, you’ll gain an appreciation for art forms you may not have been familiar with and even get the opportunity to meet some of the artists following the shows.
Here are just a few of the performances you can look forward to enjoying:
Korean fan dance performers in Busan, South Korea will captivate you with an exhilarating display of color, traditional costumes, and choreography. Buchaechum is an ancient shamanistic dance that was believed to ward off evil spirits. Originally performed by dancers with large leaves, today’s buchaechum features beautiful folding fans. This display is the perfect complement to a day spent exploring the fascinating metropolis of Busan, filled with historical treasures and natural beauty.
You’re in for a special treat when you return on board Seabourn Sojourn from the Cambodian beach town of Sihanoukville: a Khmer show celebrating Cambodia’s rich cultural identity through traditional music and dance. Guests are transfixed as musicians play unique instruments such as the khloy (a bamboo flute) and the tro (a xylophone), and dancers make graceful movements in ornate silk headdresses. Khmer performances are truly a feast for the senses, and by witnessing one you are helping to preserve this treasured art form.
Japan is rich in local entertainment, enabling us to provide fascinating on-board entertainment opportunities, including a traditional Taiko drum performance with Geishas moving gracefully alongside. The rhythmic athleticism of the drummers combined with the exquisite kimonos and enchanting movement of the Geishas makes this an unforgettable event. Seabourn is also pleased to be the only cruise line to feature the Fukushima Youth Sinfonietta, an orchestra formed in 2012 to promote self-expression through classical music and to use music as an agent of healing in times of upheaval and uncertainty.
It's always a delight to watch and listen to the Hell’s Gate Steel Orchestra in St. John’s, the capital city of Antigua and Barbuda. The oldest continuously operating steel band in the world, with origins dating to 1945, this talented and energetic group of local musicians bring joy and Caribbean vibes wherever they perform. The band always attracts big crowds on the island and tours around the world, but you will experience them in Seabourn comfort onboard the ship. Whether you spend your shoreside day in St. John’s exploring the ruins of sugar plantations, photographing the city’s distinctive candy-colored architecture or learning about the region’s history at the Museum of Antigua and Barbuda, the Hell’s Gate Steel Orchestra will have you up and dancing.
